Picture-perfect bride Louise and her French-born beau Romain met through mutual friends and after criss-crossing the country when Romain relocated to Perth, the pair gathered friends from across the globe to celebrate in Brisbane. Their elegant and creative wedding featured spectacular rainforest-inspired table arrangements, a vintage-themed whiskey and cigar table, and photo booth with handmade paper flower backdrop. We love.

During the course of my university degree, I rented a house in Brisbane with two friends, one of whom was a French university graduate participating in an internship in Australia. In early April 2010, my housemate invited a few of her French colleagues around for dinner, including my husband-to-be, Romain. After enjoying a wonderful night of good food and company, Romain asked me out on our first date.
Romain was relocated to Perth for work after we had been dating for a number of years. After settling, Romain and I often vacationed in the Margaret River region and soon discovered our favourite wineries and restaurants. In early November 2013, Romain booked a surprise weekend away in Margaret River. Upon arrival, I realised it was not our usual weekend away, as Romain had booked a beautiful secluded retreat tucked away amongst some of the finest vineyards. On the first day of our weekend escape, Romain and I visited one of our favourite winders and whilst walking though a beautiful rose garden on the estate Romain proposed.
Both Romain and I wanted to personalise our wedding to our unique dispositions. We were seeking a canvas to build upon, amazing staff to facilitate our ideas, a beautiful backdrop and a central location for travelling guests, and Moda Events met this aspirations.
We didn’t choose a specific theme or colour scheme. We simply chose a series of arrangements and displays that represented us with an air of elegance. For the guest tables we wanted to create an indoor rainforest through the use of tall wood and bronze metal pot plant stands, which were hand-forged into delicately designed branches. Perched atop the pot plant stands, stood an array of green foliage, white disbuds and green carnations designed and constructed by Always Fabulous Flowers.
Surrounding the guests and bridal table was a vintage-themed whisky and cigar table, designed with gold whisky and cigar accoutrements, crystal decanters, antique books and wooden cigar boxes.
We sourced a supplier of beautiful handmade paper flowers from Etsy. We transformed the flowers into a white paper flower wall, which stood as a backdrop to the photo booth situated in the corner of the room.
While we were planning, I came across an image of a beautiful glass cloche and stand, which contained an assortment of cheeses. I suggested to Romain that we purchase the cloche and stands for the wedding favours and provide an alternate drop of Koko Black Chocolates (my favourite) and cheese (Romain’s favourite) for each guests. To assist them in transporting their glass cloche and stand home we supplied soft linen bags. The place cards were attached to small hessian bags that contain scented lavender which our wedding guests could take with them.
We splurged on quite a few items for the wedding, including the various accessories for the whisky and cigar bar, dessert station, mimosa table and photo booth. We saved money by designed the tables, sourcing the accessories and using vintage items.
Most certainly the speeches, they were all incredibly witty. Also some of the moves on the dance floor were quite memorable, especially when the guests danced in a circle around Romain to Daft Punk’s Around The World.
While it is ever-so-cliché, walking down the aisle is my special memory from the day, with my husband-to-be waiting at the end of the aisle, my beautiful bridesmaids just ahead of me and having everyone I love and cherish in attendance at the church. It was a very special moment.
In addition to my amazing family and parents-in-law who were the foundation on which the entire day was built, a special thanks must go too Paul Hunt, Always Fabulous Flowers, Evernew Studio and Moda Events Portside.
Even though preparing for a wedding is an arduous, stressful process, keep in mind that the end result is worth the effort. It will be one of the best days of your life.
